Avon Co-operative Nursery School began back in 1953 in the basement of St. James Church in Stratford; founded by Mr. and Mrs. Tom Patterson with the main aim to help children become, “well adjusted citizens of the future”. While Avon Co-operative has moved and evolved over the years, those founding families recognized the importance of early education as well as the advantages of parents having an active part in running the school our children attend. Over 60 years later, the model still holds. Parents work with the common goal to run the best possible nursery school for our children with the guidance and resources of our professional Registered Early Childhood Educators. The Nursery School Director works closely with the Board of Directors; and families serve on committees. Together, we make sure that each school year is a successful one for children and families, providing a friendly and supportive Co-operative experience.
